HELLO And welcome to the incredibly long awaited and highly anticipated (if even just by me) Immortal Outdoors!

We have not yet launched - meaning that the only people who really know that this website exists are my direct friends, or friends of friends - so if you don't know who I am, then cool.... Hi! :D

Anyway, we are in the process of testing the first range of developments, adding some content to the system, bug finding and generally playing with the brand new system. This all went live on ImmortalOutdoors.com just yesterday, the 23rd of December, and unfortunately now has to wait until about the 23rd of January I believe before our development team come back from holidays before any adjustments and bug fixes can be made. So we have about 4 weeks worth of play before problems can be fixed!

So, first of all, sorry for all of the little niggling annoyances that will necessarily be present. There are quite a few litlte things which need to be fixed (the ability to modify your own forum posts for example, or the ability to use punctuation in the subject line!), and there may be small bugs which are annoying, but all of that will just have to be tolerated until the dev team come back from holidays.

Meanwhile, there are a few more major additions which will be made before the public launch actually happens. Two of which are the addition of specific data fields with specific activities - so camping activities will allow you to enter whether dogs are allowed, how much it will cost, whether you need to book or not etc. This will allow you to search for campgrounds according to specific requirements, or filter out ones you have no interest in etc.

So that is under development, as to is the "Persistent Path Network" which is a second layer to the map data, which will allow reliable, peristent paths to be mapped, and associated with activities. This will make more sense with canyons and rock climbing and simmilar sorts of activities, but in the meantime, when creating these sorts of activities in the map, I am simply ignoring the entrance and exit paths, because when the new "PPN" system is imlemented, I am going to have to go back through and edit it all anyway. :)

Thats all for now. Lots to do, see you all around the website...
Oh yeah, Merry Christmas too....

Hi,

Nice site/idea you have here. I love the 'Mapping The Outdoors' map!

My two cents are:

1. have different scrolling for the menu and the main part of the page.

2. It might exist, but i dont know how to use/add it - add a gps track for every activity.

Hey Nitzan!

Thanks for joining us, I'm really glad you like the map - in my mind it is what this whole thing is all about! I hope more and more people come to like it too as it is slowly refined and more content is added!

Thanks for the feedback:
1. I am definitely going to see about getting the scroll-wheel thing fixed where at the moment when you scroll in/out on the map, it also triggers the side scroll bar (this is very annoying for me). So I want that fixed - but is that what you mean?
In any case though, I do actually want to change the layout quite a lot - but that will have to wait for a bit I am afraid.

2. Similarly for this one - rest assured, this is absolutely going to be done, but it will be implemented after some of the basic article entry and display elements are completed I am afraid. (so much to do, so little development time :(

One thing I need to explore, is how this data may be imported, and interacted with. So I will talk to my developers about this when they get back to work (one more week now!)
